Speed up file folder browsing in Windows Explorer
Every time you open My Computer to use Windows Explorer to browse folders and files there is a slight delay that slows down the file folder browsing. This delay in Windows Explorer is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers every time you open Windows Explorer. You can easily boost the browsing speed of Windows Explorer. Follow these steps to do this Windows XP trick:
Double-click on My Computer icon on the Desktop
Click the Tools menu
Select Folder Options
Click on the View tab

Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
Click Apply
Click OK
Reboot your computer
