DNS Client Service

Service Name:  Dnscache Process Name:
 svchost.exe -k NetworkService
Safe to Disable:  No Recommended Setting:
 Enable

Resolves and caches DNS names, allowing the system to communicate with canonical names rather than strictly by IP address.

If this service is stopped, this computer will not be able to resolve DNS names and locate Active Directory domain controllers. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. The system will be unable to resolve a name and will be able to communicate only via IP address. A client may be unable to communicate with its domain controller. Stopping this service will result in the inability for the computer to resolve names to IP addresses.

Dependencies: TCP/IP Protocol Driver
